Serving God in Unity
Part 1: Scripture Focus
Key Passage: Ephesians 4:1-6

"I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."
Part 2: Devotion
The modern world celebrates individualism, but God’s kingdom requires interdependence. In Ephesians 4, Paul writes from a prison cell, yet his primary concern is not his physical freedom; it is the spiritual unity of the church. He reminds us that our calling as believers cannot be lived out in isolation. Serving God effectively requires us to serve together.
Unity is not the same as uniformity. God does not erase our differences, cultures, talents, or personalities. Instead, He aligns them toward a single purpose. True biblical unity is supernatural. It is a gift already given by the Holy Spirit, but it requires diligent maintenance. Paul uses the word "eager" to describe how we should guard this unity. It takes hard, intentional work.
