Today is election day in the United States. It represents a pivotal time for people here and even around the world where United State’s policies touch lives. A time where the American people voice their decisions by coming together to shape the future. Determining what course leadership and policies will take for years to come. This is a time when we should be calling for peace, wisdom and integrity. It is essential that we seek God’s divine intervention, His power and His guidance and pray that the process goes smoothly, justly and is done according to His will.

Prayer has the power to bring calm to what can cause tension, bring unity where there is division, bring clarity where there is uncertainty. In Philippians 4:6-7 we are told not to be anxious for anything, to go to God in prayer with thanksgiving and make our petition to Him and He will give us a peace like no other. We want to lift up our country, our leaders, our election workers, our polling locations, and the people because through prayer it brings God’s presence into it and gives the process and results over to Him. We then can have peace knowing that what happens God will use for His good Romans 8:28 and it will usher us one day closer to what needs to happen for Jesus Christ to return.

Elections can be contentious and bring up feelings in us that as a Christian we must set aside and give over to God. By praying we are putting our trust in God’s sovereignty and wisdom Proverbs 3:5-6. Trust in Him with all of our heart, leaning on Him and in all ways submitting to Him and He will make the way straight. With unity Christians must come together in prayer taking responsibility and pleading God to intervene and take control. In 1 Timothy 2:1-3 we are instructed to pray for those in authority so that we can live with peace and God’s holiness. Our prayers should be for peace, fairness and divine intervention.

Remember that prayer is not about just what we want to happen but it includes aligning our petition and our own desires with God’s will. In James 1:5 we are told that if we lack wisdom to ask for it from God. We should pray for Godly wisdom and discernment and trust God to guide us to a future that will reflect His justice and love. Let us be in a state of prayer throughout this day and during the upcoming transition of power. Seek God’s way in all we say and all we do and remember we are to represent the character of Jesus Christ in every way, every day and that includes election day. We have an opportunity before us to witness about Jesus Christ today and let us take that seriously and share the gospel with someone today. Wouldn't it be awesome if election day 2024 became someone’s day of salvation. That would be the best decision they could ever make. Let us pray today and every day that we will cross paths with someone that doesn't know Jesus and that we are given the opportunity to show them from the bible how they too can have the peace that only salvation through Jesus Christ can give us.
